Boreholes in the growing shoot of a coconut tree from coconut rhinoceros beetles, Oryctes rhinoceros. Mamala Bay golf course, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The adult beetles bore through the outer fronds to get to the growing shoot, where they feed on sap. These beetles were caught in the act, and the picture shows how a single bore causes holes in multiple rachises.
