July 10, 2010. Hale Pohaku. Trupanea arboreae pupae in seed heads of Mauna Kea silversword, Argyroxiphium sandwicense subsp. sandwicense. Seed heads here were heavily infested, with five or more old pupae in each, despite there being only a few plants. At the larger Waipahoehoe population there was much less damage.
