August 6, 2009. Hionamoa Gulch. Since I was last here in 2006, Pahala shifted its water supply to a deep well makai, so Alili spring was uncapped. I think this was the first time I've seen a spring in Hawaii flowing naturally. The water collected in a pool below, but the ground was so porous that the stream wasn't flowing even below the spring.
